Truckster in Virginia Beach

Today was quite a day at the beach.  First, we met up with Mara, the Mother of All Trips and her 8 year-old son, Tommy.  They were excited to see and be riding in the famous Truckster, however, we had to convince Tommy that the Truckster was indeed a celebrity and has appeared in some Hollywood films.

Now, I didn’t know how much I could have in common with an 8 year-old (other than my love for making odd noises and recess), but today I found out.  I met Tommy and he was wearing a Phillies hat and a matching Phillies jersey!  Score!  Next, we wanted to get some food and Tommy suggested…SUSHI!!!  Apparently, Tommy already got lessons in “the finer things of life” and is well on the way to a career of…awesomeness.

After discussing Greek mythology over sushi rolls, he suggested we do what any group of friends, business colleagues, or just generally classy people do…go golfing.  This guy has all the right moves.  This wasn’t just your average 18—we faced Pirates, water hazards, unbelievable breaks, and strategically placed rocks all over the terrain during this series of miniature challenges.

After mini-golfing, we found a water slide on the beach that had a stairway to heaven  immediately followed by a death-defying drop.  We dared Tommy to ride it, and he did—not once, but twice!  Knowing that the only thing between you and the ground when you’re 30 feet in the air is some plastic filled with air is a powerful thought that only the bravest can come to grips with.

Steph and I took the Truckster to “Why not Wednesdays” in Virginia Beach but only were able to hang out and listen to the music there for an hour before it started pouring.  Oh, I’m sorry, did I say pouring?  I meant before the hurricane/gale force winds picked up and attempted to lift the Truckster into space.  I ran out into the storm (foolishly) to help someone tear down the pieces of wrenched metal attached to what appeared to be a sail that ten minutes prior was their vendor tent.  My heart was in this way more than my brain because I’m still soaking wet from the experience.

Check out our Virginia Beach highlight video!  Sweet vacation memories…

Tomorrow, we’re traveling to D.C. but not before going to Colonial Williamsburg followed by a Bowie Baysox game in the evening.  Looking forward to it!
