Star struck in Portland, Maine and feeling “Alive at 5”

I feel like a celebrity.

That's right, you're lookin' at her

“You’re the girl from the news […] wow, you talk fast.”

I was getting high-fives and smirks from complete strangers that implied hey, I know you. As it turns out, the people of Maine watch the news and many individuals caught my 17 seconds of speed talking… I mean, FAME, from our interview with NBC’s WCHS 6 on Tuesday. Now all this attention from people knowing who we were and what we were doing in town felt strange. Especially since our break day, yesterday, was full of so many familiar faces. (Thanks for getting lunch with me, mom and Anthony, and a huge “HELLO!” to all the Grout’s who had me over for family dinner last night! It is such a unique perk that John and I get to visit our family and friends around the country. Seriously, while I was having family fun, John spent the day golfing with friends from New Hampshire!)

But back to today… FAMOUS.

It all started this morning when John and I drove by WJBQ, Q97.9, Portland’s #1 hit music station. I’m not usually on the VIP list, but when morning show host Meredith came out to meet us, I felt like I was ‘one of them.’

Then this evening we were invited to join the festivities of “Alive at 5,” the free summer concert series at Monument Square in downtown Portland. We jammed to the tunes of local artists, Eric Bettencourt and The Lucid, while enjoying the hospitality of our hosts the Sebago Brewing Company and 102.9 WBLM.

Two pillars stood/sat proudly in Momument Square this evening...

I’m telling you, throughout the evening while I was happily enjoying the Maine “heat wave” at a breezy 80 degrees, people were identifying me as that girl.

The lady in blue turned to me and started, “You’re the girl from the news…” My instinctual smile in response was more than enough confirmation as she continued, “wow, you talk fast.”

Tomorrow is for ‘woodies.’ Catch John and I at the Saratoga Automobile Museum in Saratoga Springs, NY from approximately 1 – 4 p.m. The museum’s ongoing woodie exhibit is about to acquire a jewel… or rather, a (wagon) Queen for the afternoon.

And don’t worry, boss, I’ll practice breathing before my next interview.
